Vacuole
A vacuole is a membrane bound organelle in the cell that is responsible for storage within the cell. They are often filled with water as wells as organic and inorganic material and are formed by the fusion of multiple membrane vesicles. The vacuole as no definite shape or size, it is all based on the need of the specific cell. The vacuole has many other functions including isolating materials that might be harmful or a threat to the cell and holding waste products. In relation to real life if a cell mutated and no longer contained a vacuole then the cell would have nothing to store the waste, and remove bacteria there for the cell would not last for any period of time. The vacuole was first thought of as a means of storing unwanted materials, until the 1960's when they discovered they also store proteins until they're needed.
